Anyway.....on with our stay in Chambersburg over the weekend...
We visited the place where Jennie Wade, the only Gettysburg citizen that was killed during the Battle of Gettysburg at only 20 years of age. She was staying with her sister in her home because her mother thought it would be a safer place for her during the hard times. The home was really amazing with just a few minor changes and repairs it remains how Jennie must have known it more than 100 years ago. She was killed by a gunshot that went through two doors. She was baking bread in the kitchen at the time for the Union Infantry. To see the actual bullet holes was a strange feeling.

Richard and Ellen before our Tour
Richard played a lot of golf with his free time prior to my arrival on the east coast. While playing golf at Locust Hill Golf Course at the 12Th hole is a wall left from a home after a battle during the Civil War.
Wall still standing left from the battle
Close up picture you can see all of the bullet holes in the walls. The battle took place on August 21, 1864 in Jefferson County. There are so many monuments and artifacts from the war to see and so much to learn. I am so interested in all of it.
And of course our "Little Ellen" was such a good traveller! She loves being back with her Dad reading the paper and doing cross word puzzles! :)
